6 Unique Website Content Ideas

Share

It can be difficult to come up with interesting and unique website content ideas, on a consistent basis. The term “Content is King” is used quite a lot online, but there is a reason for that! Producing great content is key to your website’s success, doing so can increase the value of your website and gets you more links from external sources.

But what makes great content? Well, like anything, great ideas usually spark off the creative juices to get you writing, so I thought I might provide you with a few of my own favourite ideas to get you started.

Break the News

Newspapers

There will always be news in the world to report. This is why so many websites and bloggers do that very thing. No matter what your niche is that you are focusing on, there will be something new happening within it that you will be able to report on. The good thing about news items, is that they attract lots of attention, attention which can be directed towards your website!

Whilst simply reporting the news can be a great source of valuable content for your site, actually making the news is even better! If you can come up with some way to actually “be” the news, then you will get a lot of attention. Perhaps you were the first person to try something new in your niche, or you invented a unique method of doing something, whatever it is, it is news to someone. This is obviously much harder than just reporting, but by “being” the news you and your site will get an influx of interest.

Make Your Content Social

Making content in a way that promotes discussion and social interaction can be a great way to make you stand out. It doesn’t really matter what the subject matter is, but producing it in a way that encourages people to leave comments, opinions, votes, etc. can generate a buzz around your site.

For example, you may be writing a blog post comparing two different products, say ‘iPad vs Kindle‘. You could encourage people to get involved with the discussion by asking for their opinion at the end of the article – “Do you agree with the result?”. Additionally, providing your readers with a way to vote ‘for’ or ‘against’ what you have said can help.

Be Opinionated

This method can be quite successful at attracting attention to your site. Whatever your content is about, you can write it in a heavily biased way. That way, people who strongly disagree with what you are saying will want to leave comments fighting for their point of view. Similarly, people who strongly agree with what you are saying will equally want to comment and support what you are saying.

I think this can be a great way of producing unique content, however intentionally upsetting communities of people just for the sake of it is wrong. Use your judgement wisely, you want to spark debate, not hatred!

Compile Interesting Data

If you have access to interesting data, you have the opportunity to present it in an interesting way that will be of interest to the online community, such as an infographic. The internet is the primary place for people to find information, so providing it to them can be a great way of getting interest to your site.

Perhaps you have had a sharp increase in traffic to your website after implementing something new. Produce a post detailing what you did and back that up with the data that supports it. Similarly, you might have conducted some market research within your niche and found something of importance.

The trick is to present it in a clear and concise way, which people will understand. Visual analysis can help illustrate things much easier in certain circumstances. Whatever the information is, people want to know about it.

Check out our ‘How To Use Infographics To Attract Traffic!‘ post for more details.

Visualize Third Party Data

You may not have access to any interesting information, however there are many sources of finding some. You don’t always need to own the data to present it in an interesting way. There are literally endless amounts of data sources that are publicly available online, you just need to look for it.

There may also be an opportunity to exchange information with companies or other websites for something in return, perhaps a link on your site, or a dedicated post. No matter where the information is from (as long as it is obtained legally!) there is an opportunity to present it on your website for people.

Become An Information Hub

Depending on your niche, there may be countless other websites and blogs competing for attention. If that is the case, then you may consider becoming a beacon for people by filtering out all of the needless information. Instead of constructing the content yourself, you could alternatively become an outlet, choosing to display the best information that is available online.

This method can build you a reputation as a guru within your field, where people come to find the best information that is available.

The hard part is getting permission from the actual author of the information that you wish to use. You may have to provide links to there website, perhaps even paying them, but you must get permission! There are lots of places online where you can get this type of information for free. Many article directories give away there posts for free for you to display on your own site, just make sure before you do.

Anyway, I hope that these suggestions give you some ideas for your own website. If you have your own ideas, please leave any suggestions below in the comments section for people to discuss.
