[* - Matt Cutts has stated (see comments section) that he doesn't actually earn any money directly via his blog.  Instead he utilizes Twitter to promote various products and merchandise to his many followers.  Still a viable blog to feature on this list though, as it shows that other methods can be used to make money online.]

This list is only an estimate of the true worth of these sites. If anything, these are probably UNDERestimates, as many of these sites have many streams of income. Check out our ‘30 Ways Your Website Can Earn You Money‘ to learn of other ways in which you can monetize your website.

It took me quite a bit of time to research this ‘Top 50 Earning Blogs‘ list. I learnt a lot from doing this and found loads of interesting sites and bloggers. I believe that this list helps to illustrate the ladder of success that we all strive to climb up. doesn’t feature on the list YET, however I will strive to work hard to achieve a place amongst these outstanding names.  I hope you feel as inspired as I do!

Disclaimer:- The website’s featured in this top 50 list are only estimates and are not 100% accurate! This is just an indication of how well they are doing regarding making money from their blog. All of the ‘Daily Income’ & ‘Value’ statistics were calculated using the free tool ‘’  which can be used to estimate the worth of a website.

  • Chris Brogan

Er, um…. It’s an interesting post, and thanks for the disclaimer that these are estimates, but yeah. I wish I made that much in affiliate sales via my blog. I make the lion’s share of my money with professional speaking that comes via the blog, so I’m not sure that counts in your equation. If so, that number is too low. If you’re talking about on-blog sales then it’s a bit too high at present.

That said, it’s interesting and I can tell you took a lot of time with it, so I wish you the best.

    • Matt Smith

Hi Chris. Thanks for your honest answer. I really wanted to create some sort of list that showed the potential value of blogs to people. All of the values are estimates, but they can give a good indicator to just how well people can do when they put their mind to blogging.

Keep up the graet blog :)

  • John Paul

Matt thanks for adding me. I will have to second what Chris said. If it is just on site affiliate sales, that is a good average, some days much less some days much higher.

But if we include product sales and consulting income then that is way low.

Still a great post and happy to be mentioned with some big hitters and people I look up to.

    Thanks man.

    • Matt Smith

      Hi John,

I totally agree with what you have both said. It was difficult to assess an accurate amount that each website earns on a daily basis, so an average taken from ‘SiteWorthChecker’ was the best way of doing it to keep everything fair.

I was really pleased that so many great bloggers that I admire made the list. Glad you liked it :)

  • Zack Richards

Wow! Great list. Its amazing to see just how much some blogs make

    • Matt Smith

This list probably underestimates the true earnings of these sites. If you were able to add up all of their many different revenue streams; advertisng, affiliates, services, etc then it would be considerably more!

  • Elouise Davis

Now I know what to aim for :)

    • Matt Smith

Something that we can all aim for :)

  • Darrel456

wow! never knew blogs could make so much

    • Matt Smith

I was suprised just how much some of the top blogs on the list make! Definately inspires me to knuckle down and work on my own sites

  • Enoumen from

    Hi Matt,
Where you able to evaluate the average number of readers per day for those top blogs?

    • Matt Smith

I calculated all of the above using SiteWorthChecker, which doesn’t evaluate the average number of readers per day. Try checking Alexa, that will give you that information

Matt, I see you were not a math major, your stated daily incomes do not equal your stated yearly incomes.

    • Matt Smith

      [See reply above]

  • Enochstoc

Excuse me Matt, my mistake, you evaluated the sites worth, I thought it was yearly income.

    • Matt Smith

It’s definately ‘Site Value!’, though as I say in the post, this is probably an UNDERestimate of the true value of the site.

  • Bob

Since your blog isn’t listed in the top 50 you must make less than $13,000 per year for your effort. That’s not very inspiring.

    • Matt Smith

I think that is unfair Bob! No, our site doesn’t make the Top 50 list…YET! OnlineIncomeTeacher, com has only been up & running for about 4 months, whereas the sites listed here have been up for at least a year or more.

I intend to update this list in a years time, and I aim to feature on it!

Feel inspired by what we have accomplished in such a short time. Anyone can do what we have done, it just takes hard work and effort.

  • Meronagar

Nice collection. Really inspires when we see this list. Hope we will be in the list some day. For Now, I just make 15$ a day which is never enough to get in this list. Will inform when I will be able to get listed.

    • Matt Smith

Well every one on this list started at the bottom and built from there! People who are just starting out need to remember that. It takes a lot of hard work and time to build up a website to the level that these are at, but anyone can do it if they want to.

Good luck to you and I hope that you feature on this very list in the future

Greta topic but the information is wrong. I make no money from my blog. Zero, not a penny.

Twitter is a different story: there I hawk Google merchandise, apps, t-shirts, thongs++ and get a penny here and there for every app and item my Twitter followers buy.

I would be grateful if this post is corrected and confirmed to me via a tweet.

Did Panda hit you Matt? Some small sites were hit pretty bad, 80% loss. Sucks to be them and I feel their pain a little and sometimes but it’s business. We at Google saw adwords use and our profits increase

    • Matt Smith

      Hey Matt (Great name!),

Interesting to hear that you don’t make any money directly from your blog. Is that through choice (ie, you choose not to monetize) or don’t you feel that it is worth it?

Is good to see that you are able to utilize Twitter so well. I personally haven’t had much success monetizing Twitter, but then I don’t have such a massive following.

As for Panda, it’s hard to say as this site was started after Panda was first released. I know small sites were hit, and still struggle to start earning online initially. To say that we are still a relatively young site, we are doing alright.

      • Seo AllRounder

is that really matt cutts from google ? :O wow!

        • Matt Smith

          It certainly is! :)

  • jrplaza

Wow… amazing post you have here @matt! Well, I know those at the top 10 in the list specially my all time favorite mashable as well as the techcrunch and it’s quite a bit huge for a blog to earn those amounts. How about you matt? Have you earned a lot from blogging? It’s me jrplaza from Always10. I would love to guest post to you soon… I’m still at the editing part.

    • Matt Smith

Hi Jrplaza! Nice to hear from you again.

Yeah, I’m a big fan of Mashable as well, great place to keep up to date with news about the latest tech and social media.

Our site is doing pretty good at the moment. Still pretty early as we have only been active for just under 6 months, but I can’t complain. Definitely looking forward to seeing where we will be in the next 6 months.

That’s great! We always welcome guest posts, just email me with your submission via the ‘Write for Us’ page when you have finished. I look forward to reading your submission :)

I find it hard to believe only 50 blogs earn more than $37 per day. Technorati has a directory of 1,291,885 blogs.

    • Matt Smith

I’m sure that there are a lot more blogs that earn more than $37 a day, but I didn’t have time to look through all 1,291,885+ blogs. :)

These 50 are some of the most famous and popular blogs on the internet. I intend to update this list at some point this year, so if anyone does know of any site that you think should feature, then please let me know.

  • Matt Smith

    ***PLEASE READ!!!***

People don’t seem to be reading the information after the Top 50 list.

The values on this list were calculated using ‘SiteWorthChecker’. These values are ESTIMATES and most likely UNDERestimates! Sites can have many streams of income, which makes evaluating these sites difficult.

This list is just meant to give an idea as to how valuable websites can be. I used ‘SiteWorthChecker’ to create the list so that blogs were listed fairly. I could have guessed the values, but this would not be accurate.

  • Seo AllRounder

by daily you mean money every day or every month ?

    • Matt Smith

Yes, daily means every day. Though this is only an estimation, based on statistics from ‘SiteWorthChecker’. In reality, these values are probably under-estimates, making these sites even more valuable than stated!

I made this list a while ago now, it really needs updating to be honest, which I intend to do very soon. You certainly seem to be doing VERY well for yourself! Can I ask, do you make that much purely from your website ‘’, or is that from your business/other websites/other income streams added together? Just interested to learn.

Amazing – loving the comment from Timothy Sykes too! Don’t forget people, this is just from the blogs. You can probably triple that amount if you take into account the other websites and internet marketing promotions they have going…….

    • Matt Smith

Finally, someone that read the introduction!!!!!

Exactly, this is just an estimation of the site’s worth. Many of these sites make much more based on other onsite income, which is obviously much harder to assess.

Not necessarily. PPC can refer to lots of different advert types. Google AdSense is just the most well know PPC system.

How are you sure about their income stats have you asked them in person or all are estimates .. i think these stats are not correct ..

    • Matt Smith

As it says in the description above, I used ‘SiteWorthChecker’ to estimate all of these values.

  • Matt Smith

    Hi Walter,

Yes, I’m afraid that updating this post is still on my to-do list. The site has grow quite a bit over the last 12 months, so it’s increasingly difficult to find the time to keep up to date with everything. Pretty bust at the moment, but I will get round to doing it at some point :)

  • Matt Smith

Hi Mike, thanks for letting me know about these sites. When I get round to updating the list, I’ll make sure that they get featured (should they make the list).

  • Matt Smith

No, I didn’t exclude anyone. I tried to include all the sites that I could, but frankly there are SO many out there that it was almost impossible to accurately include the exact Top 50. I’m sure that there are plenty more that I’ve never heard of.

That is exactly the mindset that you have to get into if you want to build a successful site. Blogging IS a business, that is why the ones that fail after a few months fail because their business wasn’t up to scratch.

Great blog post Matt. This is a big boost to motivate my blogging levels. By the way I really found your blog highly informative as I am also focusing on the same Niche of SEO, blogging and social media. I need to ask a question:

While I blog on SEO, Social media and blogging topics, do i have to stay focused on either one of these? Moreover, how about having a How-to-guide page on my website featuring how to guides for Windows 8? I do not know how much would i deviate my reader. I need some advice if you are ready to help!

Thanks a TON in advance! @OnlineIncomeTeacher:disqus

    • Matt Smith

Sorry for the late reply, been off for a bit over Christmas.

To answer your question – I think you would be fine talking about the separate topics. Each topic may be a slight deviation, but together they are relevant to one another. Your readers will appreciate information on these related topics, as that is what they are after. As long as you don’t go too far away from your main niche that your site is focusing on, you will be fine.

One piece of advice I’d give is to clearly link to the separate topics in your menu bar. This way, not only is it easier for your readers to flick between topics, but it helps you organize the different posts on your site.

Hope that helped Saeed. Feel free to ask any other questions you may have.

      • saeedyasir

        Hi Matt

Thanks for your response. I got my confusion cleared because I always can

t generate content on only one niche. I need a bit of mixture related to technology like how to guides, blogging, seo, social media, etc. I will take great care of the menu.

  • Igbalaye Olayemi

Great lists of bloggers and i know a lot of them. one of the benefit of owning a blog is to be able to make some money on it

    • Matt Smith

Yes, this shows that if you are prepared to put the hard work into making your site a success, you can earn quite a bit of money doing it. Of course, getting your site to this level won’t happen over night, but it can if you work at it.

  • WordPress and Blogging Tips

Amazing list – Thanks Matt. It really inspired me:)

Can you tell me one thing – how old these blogs are? I mean how much time and money I need to invest to earn that much?

    • Matt Smith

That’s a tough question to answer as I’m not entirely sure on the age of each of these blogs. Most of these are fairly established though, I reckon at least 3-4 years old if not longer. But don’t let that put you off, younger sites can still make plenty of money if you put the work in. The point of the list is to show that the hard work CAN pay off in the long run.

Unless I’m reading this wrong (and I could be :). how is a site that makes $37 a day a top 50 earning site? A couple of my websites make more than that. Or is it just an example of what people can earn in one day with AdSense? Sign me confused :)

    • Matt Smith

Yes, this is just an example of what people can earn in a day with AdSense. In most cases, these sites make MUCH more that what I have stated because they have multiple sources of income. It is only die to the fact that it is difficult to accurately estimate the actual income figures for these sites that I can’t state them as higher.

  • Rajan M

Is the siteworthchecker realiable for gauging the site worth? Coz I checked my blog and I’m amazed. Mine is a free blogspot, 3 months old. My blog’s worth is shown to be $7k with daily $10 ad revenue. I don’t know about the worth but definitely I am not making that much daily income.

    • Matt Smith

      Hi Rajan,

No, it’s not that accurate, especially for small sites. Often they over estimate for small sites, but also underestimate for much larger sites like the ones listed. Remember, the sites listed will be making much more from multiple different income sources.

It’s a good way to rank sites these sites though.

  • SmittenbyBritain

It’s interesting that many of those top earning blogs are about earning money through blogging. No coincidence I think.

    • Matt Smith

      Well yes and no!

If you look, none of the top 10 have anything to do with “earning money through blogging”. They are primarily news and information based sites that get tons of traffic.

There are a high proportion of “earning money through blogging” sites though, as they are build in a more business like way to attract the most amount of traffic.

Personally, I think that any type of site can feature highly on this list, you just need the right approach.

  • Andreas Shiindi

wish my blog make this kind of money

    • Matt Smith

You’re not alone. Think a LOT of people would like to feature on this list

  • Raul

How come those big blogs make money with advertising banners, and when I enter the site there are no banners there??

    • Matt Smith

Do you have any kind of ad blocker active? Just checked myself and I am seeing plenty of banners.

Remember though, these sites will have multiple sources of income. They won’t just rely on one method. I was just giving an example for each.

      • Raul

Ahaaa, that might be the issue, I think I do have an add blocker lol

        Thanks Matt

        • Matt Smith

To tell the truth, I was shocked at how low some of the income was. I can’t see pcmech only making $82 a day when my site (tips4pc) makes 3 times that! These figures probably are far from being accurate, because if they are I can see some bloggers that need desperate help to monetize their blogs.

    • Matt Smith

      Hi Milica,

As I say in the description below the table, these are UNDERestimates, as it is incredibly hard to come up with an accurate figure being an outsider. The point of this table was more to point people in the direction of some of the top earning sites, rather than actually giving them accurate figures.

      • Milica Pantic

True. But then the title should be 50 blogs that earn money because that is all it can really show, possibly?

Kills me how Steve Pavlina makes so much. His blog looks like it is stuck back in the early 2000s. Guess people just love his content.

I also noticed his links doesn’t take you to the product right away. First it is an article of his selling you on the product. Guess if you are a loyal follower you are much more likely to click.

    • Matt Smith

      Hi Mark,

Yeah, big fan of Steve’s. Think his site is the perfect example that it is quality content that really makes the difference. Totally agree that his site looks pretty old by today’s standards, yet he still gets tons of traffic because they want to read what he has written.

  • Mark Insight

The other interesting thing with Steve is you can’t comment on his blog.

    • Matt Smith

You used to be able to. “Think” (so don’t quote me) that he found it difficult to keep up with all the comments, so he simply disabled the comment feature. Not sure that would work on all sites.

This is another great post Matt! It’s hard to believe that the Huffington Post makes that much money on pay per click. That is just amazing! It really does show how much you can make with a online business and it does really inspire people to shoot for the stars. That’s amazing.

  • johnwooder

I think your numbers are not close enough for ex huff post probably makes tens of millions a month and the last blog on the list makes only 37/day which I think isn’t worth running after total for the month= 1100 not too much I would say to rank at 50th

    • Matt Smith

As stated in the post above, these values are underestimates as it is extremely difficult to come up with a definitive figure for each individual sites. Many probably use multiple income streams, so their incomes will be much higher than stated. If anything, these values should be viewed as the bare minimum that these sites will be making.

      • Roshane Ingram

I agree with you on this. It’s hard to have an exact figure. But your right saying that’s probably the minimum they make. Not to mention some days their daily revenue might double.

    • joão

      what are you looking for?

  • Just silly

Uh. What? There are blogs making a pathetic $37 per day on your list?? Uh… this is absolutely NOT a representative list of the highest 50 earning blogs. WTF. Stupid list.

Also, you have a flat 2x multiple of revenue valuation (annualized) on all blogs. What kind of an idiotic valuation methodology is that?

    This whole article is useless.

  • Null & Full

The difference between the first and the last place is striking. Looks like few people know how to make real money through their blogs/services while the rest is ambitiously trying to chase them.

  • dave

how about john chow? i think he earns a lot in his blog.

  • James Becker

Correct me if I’m wrong, but… This isn’t actually a list of THE top 50 money-making blogs, but a self-curated list of your favorite/chosen 50 money-making blogs, correct? I think we can assume that there are hundreds more blogs out there making just as much as the blogs on this list.

    • Salman R

Doubt it. The blogs listed here attract the most traffic. Hence, it can be deduced that they are also the top money-making blogs.

Great list. It is nice, that some people are doing what they like and earning a big money for their passion
